Design appears because the process needs to be optimized and at the same time to create better affairs. It appears in the posture of a technology for upgrading things. Through continuous progress of the society, design is not only satisfied with the improvement of the process, but also enters a higher level and plays a greater role.
When I started to learn design, I also thought about this question: what is design? Design, within the scope of technology, is a kind of technical optimization, which stays in an iterative process. Design plays a vital role in every link. It needs the participation and operation of design to find problems, think about problems and solve problems. It is an act of design and a means needed by the market that an outdated product is repackaged and redesigned and then put on the market again to bring about a new response. At the same time, this has the negative effect that the design is led by market behavior, which does nothing but achieve the maximum output of the concept. Can only be built on the basis of a new technology or process. When design appears as a way of thinking, it will undoubtedly change greatly, because we will think more questions, consider the starting point and function of things fundamentally, and more innovation consciousness will come into being. Apple is a typical case. It can’t be denied that design has played a significant role in Apple, so much so that it changed the whole industry.
In the face of the future challenge of design, my subjective consciousness will choose the improvement of design thinking, which will bring revolutionary changes and realize the conceptualization of products to the maximum extent, but at the same time, it will also bring incalculable losses and waste, because the practice of innovation is a challenge, and challenges will lead to mistakes and failures. I once saw a sentence by Kenya Hara, a Japanese designer. When we do design, we try to defamiliarize the known thing, redefine it and redesign it, which may lead to qualitative change. This is a way of innovative design thinking. This will allow designers not to be limited to the reality of technology, materials and so on. Therefore, to improve design thinking, we can try to innovate in more dimensions. At the same time, innovation of thinking also needs the support of technology. The two ways of design, technology and thinking are indispensable.
Therefore, in the face of the future of design, we do not know to stay on the surface of visual presentation, although this is the ability we designers should have, we should think more deeply about problems, solve problems, people-oriented, which is the fundamental of design. As the discipline of design continues to move forward, we need more design-thinking innovators and more actors.
